I had ad-aware and 'was' happy with it...until all of a sudden it stopped working! It would scan...tell me I had 350+ items...but when i hit quarantine, or remove...nothing ...so I deleted it and put Spybot on after reading everything on here...Question..HOW do I know what is good and what isn't??? It asks about nearly everything, it seems, permission to delete...I don't know if these things are needed or not! Lot of them are on 'start-up' and sound so necessary...I finally just gave up and delete everything...how does an amateur know if these things are necessary or not?? They all have the red checks...meaning bad news...I read the 'help', etc...but it's all latin to me...HELP!

The entries Spybot finds are items that are known malware. I have never had a problem after allowing Spybot S&D remove the items it found on scan. The exception may be Microsoft updates or default items that you DO NOT wish to use. You can then uncheck those if you wish.
The best feature of Spybot Search & Destroy is the Immunize feature. What that does is permanently block known malware from downloading to your system. I strongly suggest you use this feature averytime you run Spybot. Should tell you how many items are currently being blocked and how many can be added to the list. It is a two operation procedure.

Did you read the tutorial? Some of your questions may be answered in there. As OtheHill said, don't forget to click the immunize button at the upper portion of that section to initiate the feature. I went unprotected for a long time before I realized I hadn't done it. A nice feature of Spybot is that it creates a system restore point. Just in case.

Yes I read the tutorial...But when it tells you each thing it's removing i don't know what they are! If they are important..of course they all 'sound' important...Right now, I ran it last nite...and NOW i can't use "Blue Mountain"...it says "your browser does not seem to be allowing us to set cookies"...I never got that until i used Spybot...so i did a FULL recovery...still can't use BM...and that is the ONLY thing i did different from the last time I used it...It's a paid program, so now i can't use it...searched for 'restore cookies', etc...everything I can think of...???

What is Blue Mountain? If Spybot did remove this program you should be able to reinstall it and then have Spybot exclude it in the future. Did you look to see if a restore point is available?

Hmmm Blue Mountain is an e-card site...that you pay for...I just took OFF the immunizations and now it works!! Soooo does that mean that to use Spybot I can't use BM??? If so I guess I'll delete spybot and just do without..i REALLY liked ad-aware...much easier...but now it wont work! Wish i knew why..it scans...but then...nothing..

Did you have the new version of Adaware? Adaware 2007. If not get that one. If you have SE delete it first. I don't know if spybot can be configured to allow Blue Mountain as an exception. Maybe OtheHill knows.

First of all you should be able to EXCLUDE Blue Mountain. Then it won't be removed anymore.
Second, your version of Adaware was probably obsolete. Try Adaware 2007 if you like. There are other malware utilities besides Adaware. Find Adaware 2007 at the link below.

Read this for answer.

There is nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.

Thank you all....I saw Spyware Terminator in a list of downloads with excellent ratings, downloaded that instead...deleted Spybot...no problem with that one...I did try to find where to UNblock BM but couldn't find it...WIsh some of these programs were rated for Newbies, etc...then I'd know not to even attempt using them! BTW i DID have the latest Ad-Aware (Still my favorite if it would work with my computer)..and it did do the scanning...but as I said, when I hit quarantine...nothing...when I hit remove..nothing..I waited over 1/2 hour to see if maybe it took longer now...hit finish and it said it's not done, do you still want to finish??? Does it take an hour or more now ?? It used to be about instant!

So you are still going to use the Blue Mountain software even though it is classified as spyware. If you are going to do that then why bother running removers?

What kind of surfing are you doing that is getting 350+ infections on your machine? If Blue Mountain is being classified as spyware (and it IS spyware!), I would suggest you stop using it.

"I did try to find where to UNblock BM but couldn't find it.."
Settings > Ignore Products > All Products tab.
Put a check in the box next to Bluemountain.
That's it!! Bluemountain will now be excluded from scans.Personally, I'd prefer to stop using anything that contains/uses known spyware.
Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

I already paid for Blue Mountain...never had any trouble with it...but anyway...Now I downloaded Spybot...and using Yahoo (PLEASE dont' tell me none of you use that either????) email, approximately 20 times perminute (NO exaggerating) it keeps popping up telling me 'yield manager' is trying to get through...Is there no way to BLOCK this yield manager?? It's driving me NUTS to try to just read email! I begin to think all of the spyware 'fixers' are just as irritating as the spyware itself!

Hopefully someone has an answer to this question. I am experiencing the same problem with "Yield Manager" warnings popping up continuously in yahoo mail since I updated to the latest Spybot version. If no answer, I may just have to uninstall Spybot and hope "Yield Manager" doesn't give me grief.

The way this forum works is that you need to create your own post here.
Fill out all information and state in detail your problem. Include what Yield manager is.
