Spybot does not allow programs to run

June 11, 2009 at 22:04:15
Specs: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, 1.83 GHz / 1534 MB
My computer was just fine days ago but suddenly today all my pin programs on the start menu and many others were suddenly reduced to ".lnk". Everytime I try to run a program a Spybot window appears indicating that it is scanning the program trying to be opened. Nothing else happens and the program I am trying to open never opens up. Repetitive attempts to open other programs just repeats the same scenario. I have tried system restoring and nothing happens.

I booted up my PC and Ad-Aware warned me of unauthorized file access, so I said "no". I then said "no" to another 40+ unauthorized attempts to change/access file & registry settings. All desktop shortcuts then had a ".LNK" extension. I can find shortcut targets, but ".EXE" files don't work.

I tried downloading it but the computer responds by claiming it needs to find the appropriate program on the web to run the program...

I booted from the cd and after the scan nothing happened. Same as before. Avira found a lot of things about 128 or so warnings but nothing else noteworthy aside from that

Try booting into Safe Mode with networking. Then try downloading.
