I posted the following in a previous message:
"I have a Xerox C20 printer installed and working but every time I boot up, XP detects it as new hardware. If I follow the installation, it fails but the printer still works fine. How can I stop XP continually detecting it as 'new' when i boot up?"
I received a couple of suggestions but still get the problem. The problem has now got worse because at boot up I also now get an error message saying that "spoolsv.exe" has encountered a problem and is closing. When I go to "Settings - Printers" the printer is no longer displayed and when I try to "add a printer" I get "operation could not be completed". Now I can't print at all.
Please - any ideas anyone?

Remove all the printer's drivers, and remove the printer's cable out of your computer (hardware printer), then download the latest drivers for the Xerox C20 Printer, I think this is the xp driver, and then copy the files to your desktop, attach a parallel communication cable from the printer to the computer. Double click on the printer driver file saved to your desktop (or other convenient location on your
computer) from the file above. Click “Unzip” (to copy the print driver files to the C:\Windows\Temp folder) Click “OK” and then click “Close”. Click on "Start", then click "Control Panel", then click
"Printers and Other Hardware", then click "Add a printer". After the "Add Printer Wizard" window appears, click "Next".
(If "Found New Hardware" window appears click on "cancel") Select "Local printer attached to this computer", uncheck the
"Automatically detect and install my plug and Play printer" box if it is checked then click "Next". Click "Next" (to select LPT1 as the printer port to be used). Click "Have Disk". Click "Browse" and click on the down arrow to the right of "Look in:", select "Local disk (C:)" (or the folder you directed the files to be
copied to), then double click "Windows", double click "Temp", select Lexpsnt, or whatever the file's name is, and then click "Open". Click "OK" (to accept the path displayed). Select your printer from the list and click "Next". If the "Use Existing Driver" screen appears, select "Replace existing driver" then click "Next". Click "Next" (to accept the name and make this your default printer). Click "Next" (to automatically print a test print). Click "Finish". Select "Continue Anyway".And you can print agian, can't you?

Merijn - thanks for the quick reply. However I have already done what you suggested but now as soon as I click "Add a Printer", I get the error "operation could not be completed".
