some how the spool.exe has been deleted and therefore i cant add a printer as the spooler service is not running. Does anyone know a way i can add this back to the registry so as i can add a printer? thanx guys

Hi catfun, hello everyone,
Spool.exe is not a Windows file.
What error message are you receiving about spool.exe missing?
When are you receiving the error message?
Spool.exe is related to RapidBlaster spyware and/or the Sober.I worm.
to remove it.I also suggest you run an online virus scan from here.
Download, update and run Spybot
Best Regards,
Mesich

Try -start-run type SFC /SCANNOW-enter. You will need the xp cd. This should replace/repair any damaged/missing files. Note space between C and /.

i tried what u said and i still get the same message when i try to add a printer.
it obviously did not install the spooler drives to the regany other ideas

My last thought.
How to do a system repair.--Boot from the xp cd and go past the recovery console to the install menu. Select repair the existing installation. You won't lose any data except the xp updates. Unless you have a slipstream sp1 cd you will have to d/l sp1 and all subsequent updates. You MUST have at least SP1 installed and the updates for security reasons. Be sure the firewall and A/V is active before going online as you will be susceptible to sasser and msblaster. If you don't want SP2 go to autopatcher.com and d/l SP1 and subsequent updates. Also here for SP1A.
