Let's say I have a 750 MB divx file that I want to split into 2 smaller files. Normally I use HJSplit to break it down into two smaller files. I then use DivFix to rebuild the index on the first file so I can watch it ...no problems there. But when I try to use DivFix on the second file, it refuses to work, saying that the file is not a valid Divx file. Is there any way to spilt a large DivX file into 2 PLAYABLE files?? Right now my only solution is to break it down into 2, copy them each to CD and when I want to watch them in the future, I have to re-create the original AVI by dumping both files to my drive and using HJSplit to rejoin them ...pain :(

u need virtual dub..brolliant program.i split a 3 gig avi file onto 5 cd's using virtual dub and then i load each file onto my hard disk again then i startup virtualdub and then i rejoin them to play the movie back without any flaws works brilliant..goto this site u might find this very interesting if u havent been there already...

I have Virtual Dub but that does not solve the problem. I currently do the same thing with HJSplit ..I split the files and then rejoin them to watch. I want to be able to spilt the files in 2 and be able to watch each smaller file on their own. I'll try the "avi chop" program though. Thanks for the help..I'll keep you posted ...

Damn .. Once AVI chop gets to the second part of the file to split..it crashes!!
The first file turns out fine. Any ideas as to why it crashes?

Het Sean, I read up on Virtual and it can bu used to split up and ctreate viewable files ... I did not think your reply was what I needed ..my mistake. I'll give it a whirl.

@zombo: Do you use win9x or w3k/xp?? Under w2k/xp activate the "compatibility mode win9x" for avichop - then it should work, I hope.....

what about doing the same under Linux ?
As Virtual Dub doesn't exist under Linux, which program should i use to split an AVI file to several ?
