I've recently signed up with Sympatico (Bell) and was sent a SpeedStream 4200 modem. I've done a bit of research and have found out this is actually a modem/router, and it's quite evident that it's acting like a 1-port (RJ45, with USB option too) router. I've already got a Linksys router, because I have a fairly large home network setup. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a way to setup the SpeedStream 4200 as a straight-through DSL? My internal network has not only web, but also gaming servers setup and they are currently unaccessable by the outside world due to the modem having the external IP while giving out a "dummy" internal IP address to my router. This is something my ISP says is possible and supported, but is an "unsupported configuration" as far as their tech department is concerned, so they won't help me with it. Any help I can get from the community here would be greatly appreciated.

First, thanks for your speedy reply, it's appreciated. Second, Is there any possibility you could send the full address? I'm stuck behind a proxy for the next 6 hours that doesn't allow visits to tinyurl. Thanks again.

Nevermind, I was able to access it through a web-proxy type program. Thank you very much, I'm sure this will help a lot.

Did a bit more searching, incase anyone else has this issue with this modem, and came up with some very cool directions.

What you need to do is set the modem to "Full Bridge", from what I can tell, and the authentication (etc.) will be done by your router behind the modem. This WILL mean you have to setup PPPoE on your router, but will give you full access.

I have the 4100 and this bit of information makes me hate the modem even more.
Add my Linksys router on top of that and now I know why more than a few times it feels like my packets are being carried back and forth by a pack of slave gerbils moving at sloth speeds.
