Speakers & computer aren't talking

We bought these Cyber Acoustics speakers for the new Presario XP Media Edition, plugged the speakers in, and silly me, I expected to be able to play CDs and sound files immediately. The speakers are OK, the WIndows Media Player 10 is doing this visual thing showing the sound signal bouncing around, but there isn't a sound to be heard. OK, what did I NOT configure or set up?

Are the speakers jacks plugged into the correct speaker connections?
We've done this a few times since we don't always want to pull out the CPU to switch out the wires. Anyone could do this.

Check the speakers volume control and the mixer volume controls in the PC. Double click the speaker icon in the lower right corner of the monitor screen.
Do yourself a favor BACKUP!

Thans much. It was a matter of speakers with a green insead of blue connector, and coloured instructions on the computer documentation which was not accurate as well. Odd. It's fine now. Thanks again.
