I'm running XP Pro, and just started having this problem: After shift-deleting files on my d: drive (second partition, primary physical drive), no space frees up. I've deleted probably a GB of files, but have exactly the same amount of free space as before, which is dangerously low. I've run all the stock disk cleanup utilities (which only find like 500kb of files to clean), and tried cyberscrub, there's nothing in the recycle bin, and all my deletes have been hard deletes. Nothing changes the free space reported.
Also, I don't have Norton Recycle Bin or anything like that. I have a relatively clean system, all my temp folders have been emptied with shift-delete, but somehow XP still thinks my deleted files are taking up space somewhere. Anyone have any clue where this data could be hiding?
Thanks for any input.

Try Norton File Shredder!!! Plus I don't know if you are using a utility to delete all the files (i.e. shift-delete)

Terryco: I only have one system restore point, and it doesn't look like I have the option of deleting it. I tried decreasing the amount of space used by System Restore, but that didn't help.
Dan: I haven't tried Norton File Shredder, but the files in question have already been deleted. I'm not using any utilities, but just the standard Windows shift-delete (i.e. bypassing the recycle bin).
I've deleted about another full GB of files, and the disk space available continues to stay where it was, which is only about 10MB. Any more advice would be appreciated.

palomar,
Do you have a "Norton Protected" recycle bin?

Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want...

You want to wipe free space on the drive(windows just hides deleted files)
Try cyberscrub cyberscrub main siteThis is most likely the problem !
hmm i guess so
