Hi Guys,
I recently decided to give my old (4 years) laptop a check to see if it was working. To my surprise it booted fine, a bit slow but no change there. I was running with xp pro sp2 but decided it might be a good idea to upgrade to sp3. So I installed that and now when I try and boot, the laptop begins to try to configure sp3 but there is a problem.A popup box in the top left of the sreen tells you the progress and at various stages the computer either completely hangs or an error box pops up and says windows virtual minimum memory too low.
However I can't close the box or press ok or do anything. So i have tried restarting a few times with no luck.
I have rebooted in safe mode and adjusted windows virtual memory amount to the recommended 720Mb then down to 670Mb and still no luck.
What can I do to fix this issue ?
Oh I have also been into msconfig and disabled loads of programs from starting up on boot.
thanks in advance
Grant Gibson

Assuming it is related to the virtual memory, try going into safe mode and setting it to system managed size, instead of specifying a number. Additionally, make sure you have enough free disk space to accommodate a virtual memory file up to 2gb in size.
