I have just received my "free" SP2 from Bill. I was debating if I should install it or not after reading the pros and cons about it. Well, the temptation was to much and I've installed it. I did notice it was slower when it rebooted, but figured it was just finishing installing itself. I do not detect any other problems as far as browsing . Only time will tell. Hope I did the right thing. Now I just have to figure how to slipstream SP2. How do you copy the SP2 files from the cd?

EDIT: Pibou if you do try SimpleSlipper2 (from the link I just posted) copy xpsp2.exe onto your desktop and then run SS2.

What is on the sp2 cd, is it an .exe file or is it many individual files? You copy all the files from the XP cd to a new folder you make. I downloaded the .exe file from the net, there is 2 ways to use it to update the XP files you put in the folder.
1.Go to start>run and find the .exe file with browse. Then behind it put this
/integrate:path
path being the folder where you copied the original XP files to.
2.You can extract the files within the .exe file to a folder you make by finding it in start>run>browse again and typing this behind it
/x
note: there is a space after the .exe
then you will have a bunch of files in that folder. You find the update.exe in start>run> again and put this behind it
/integrate:path
note the space again
So depending on what is on the cd(.exe file or update.exe) you have to choose the path you take. Then you can go to this page and follow the directions exactly to burn in nero or roxio.

Thanks guys, will follow your instructions and see what happens LOL. Is it possible to include the few updates that came out since SP2 was released? Just wondering.

Sorry that someone else hijacked your post. Anyway, you can begin with Disk Defragmenter (Start / Program / Accessories / System Tools / Disk Defragmenter).

I have installed SP2 on many PCs and none were ever slowed down. I suppose that if I had used bootvis, they could be running slower.

also how do i create a slipstream windows xp install cd that installs programs and drivers such as nero and my ati drivers rather than doing it all after reformatting..

To slipstream SP2 with Windows XP CD, see Sandman's post 2 and 3 above for the link to his great program called SimpleSlipper2.

For everything else such as drivers for Nero, ATI and so forth, burn them to a separate CD.
