I have been seeing that a few people are having problems with it , I havent installed it myself so what are the chances that if I do , it will screw up and is getting SP2 really worth getting for the probelms it could cause.
Thanks

I think if you have a good firewall and antivirus program right now then you might decline the SP2 for a bit. If you follow the MS site then you might be able to load SP2 without any problems. I agree that a lot of posts are made just after the SP2 update.

SP2 is about more than just the firewall & AV. Check the list of fixes included (it's a very long one) at

If your system aready has problems - even if you don't know about them, then SP2 may only cause them to rise to the surface. As SP2 is regarded as a critical update you will carry on being nagged about it by Win Update and, chances are, like SPs on Win2000 you will eventually find that installing it is a necessity for future software to run.
"I know that I'm mad - I've always been mad..."

If your pc is running good and all your software is compatible you shouldn't have any problems. Make sure to close any running programs before starting the update. If your pc is infested with spyware/viruses you will have problems.
Most problems come from people not doing their homework before installing this MAJOR update.
Hope this helps,

If you really, objectively, read all that has been said about SP2, you'll quickly see that there are serious problems. Some caused by spybots, etc. and others by who know what?! Does this come as a surprise -- really? It's M$ for cryin' out loud!
It looks like a 50-50 proposition to me. Check the URL below. It shows just that! Reason would suggest: sit back, take a breath and wait until all the chips are in (mixed metaphors??).

Now is not the time to keep up with the Jones'. Wait a while. This dog is yet to really show it's teeth!

i've installed it on a several computers and didn't really notice anything different.
(had to use system restore on one pc to
just after the sp2 install. when links started to fail to open in ie6 ,don't know if it was related to the sp2 install though)installed it on 2 dells,a compaq,3 custom built.

I've successfully installed SP2 on 7 machines today without any problem. For me, it's just a matter of knowing what to do prior to the installation, such as running ad-aware, spybot and so forth, and most of all; making sure each machine XP is genuine.

hmm ok , I know im clean as I have spyware blaster , spybot search and destroy and adaware . I was thinking that I may wait till all the potential problems with SP2 are sorted out and I think that I will do that .
Oh and does it say on the website which software is not compatible?

software issues in sp2
