SP2 - Internet - install

Comment:
SP2 install icon is sitting in the taskbar. Prior to instal I will clean temp, cookies, adaware and defrag. My question is should I be connected to the internet to install or should I shut off or unplug the medem?

Do you, or don't you want SP2? Exactly what do you meant by should I shut off or unplug the medem?

It depends on what state the icon is in. It has either already downloaded the update and is waiting to actually install it, or else it needs you to click "OK" before going out and downloading it.
Either way, leaving the modem connected isn't going to hurt things (and you'll have to connect to the internet if the update hasn't been downloaded yet).
Go ahead and install it, but make sure you've got plenty of time for it to install...

Sorry about that, should have read modem. I would rather wait and instal SP2 later. But the auto update was set up wrong and I don't know how to get rid of the icon sitting in the task bar.

^o to Start / Settings / Control Panel / Automatic Updates to turn off the icon. You're on a dialup. Try pick up a copy at Staples, Best Buy, CompUSA, or just order it from Microsoft. This will save you time.

You should be able to double-click it and then be able to tell it to remind you later - just set it to remind you in a few days (it's been awhile since I'd done this so that's the rough steps).
And since it says it's ready to install, you can install it offline and shouldn't need to be connected to the internet...
