Motherboard is an ABit NF7-S 2.0 (NForce2 Chipset).
Issue: Patches will not install even after a complete reload and activation. I've also gone through the system cleaning with AdAware, SpyBot SnD, and Norton - it's clean. I get an error saying that the catalogs could not be installed. Primarily on SP1a, but there are a number of other patches that won't install either.
Thought I heard somewhere that there is a folder you can rename (other than CatRoot2) to fix the issue - anyone know what it is or have any other suggestions?
Thanks
Joe

Not sure if this helps, but pulled up the event message that keeps coming up when I try do do the install:
Catalog Database (1304) The database page read from the file "C:\WINDOWS\System32\CatRoot2\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\catdb" at offset 327680 (0x0000000000050000) for 4096 (0x00001000) bytes failed verification due to a page checksum mismatch. The expected checksum was 1205263197 (0x47d6db5d) and the actual checksum was 3807370853 (0xe2efde65). The read operation will fail with error -1018 (0xfffffc06). If this condition persists then please restore the database from a previous backup.

This may be a shot in the dark, but go to control panel and click on system to check to see if SP1 is all ready installed. It will show on the general tab.

Got an answer on a Microsoft.com forum/newsgroup.
Do two things on this type of problem:
1. Nuke all of your pagefiles - one of
them is more than likely corrupted.
2. Rename or delete the CatRoot2 folder
prior to attempting the install.Problem I have now (oh joy) that I've noticed is that the CatRoot2 folder seems to be corrupted after each and every install.... next hurdle in the series.
