I have Windows XP. When I did Start/Programs/Accecssories/Entertainment I did not have Sound Recorder present, although RealPlayer was there. (I have used Sound Recorder on a previous non-XP system.) I learned that the file SNDREC32.exe is a key file to get this device running. It was not present on my system. How do I obtain this file? Is it or another key file on a backup CD? Thanks.

Sound Recorder is in a typical XP Home/Pro install. You can't even choose not to install it with XP during a load. You also can't install it from the XP CD under "Install Optional Components." I have no clue what your problem is. Did you upgrade to XP? If not, you got me stumped.

I'm no expert, but Did you do a Windows SEARCH for that file??
I have a Compaq computer with pre-installed XP, and had to search for several applications, and put them where I wanted them. Maybe sound recorder was one of them.

start->control panel->add/remove programs->add/remove windows components (left pane)->accessories and utilities->multimedia->sound recorder
then stick in your cd, and it'll install that component for you
Chuck's reply turned out to be the best. I did a search for SNDREC32.EX_, a compact version of the file in question. I found it on my backup CD, although I later found it on my system as well. I expanded it using the EXPAND command and ran the .exe version. Everything is fine now. Thanks for your help.
