Hi after i have installd windows xp my sound want work. it used to work when i had Windows ME. i have Packard Bell, i was reading some things like that How to Enable/Disable the onboard sound, maybe that will help but i dont now how to do it on Packard Bell pc because i was reading was only for HP if anyone knows please email me. Thankyou

you need to know the maker of the sound chip. it could be printed on the small sound chip on the motherboard, then, go download the xp driver for that chip.

It is most likely to be a driver problem, check in device manager to see if any problem devices are listed and yes, get the latest drivers.
Disabling and Enabling onboard sound is done through the BIOS. This setting would not have been affected simply by installing XP but you won't come to any harm by resetting it to defaults.
If the XP drivers don't work then you may need to look at flashing the BIOS in case there are any compatability problems.

Check Device Manager for yellow exclamation on unknown audio devices. If you have upgraded the PC from Windows ME to Windows XP, the driver for the sound card is not compatible with XP. You will need to go to the manufacturer's website and download the correct driver. After installing new driver, verify it works. Install CD and play music. If no sound, try different port on sound card.
