The sound on my Dell Inspiron 1525 (running XP Pro SP3) has suddenly stopped working, after no problems for several months. I don't think I installed any new software, and I certainly didn't change any settings. There are no driver errors in the device manager. I've been through every setting in the system, through Dell Quickset, my programs, the device itself, etc, but no luck. The strangest thing is that the Dell software has a "jack manager" that comes up whne you plug something into the input jack. It brings up a configuration screen which allows you to send test tones to the speakers... which WORK! But nothing else will play (no iTunes, Winamp, Web sound, system events, anything). The only way I can get sound is by sneding these test tones out. Another bizarre point is that this also happened to my old Dell Inspiron e1505. I rembmer going through all the settings there as well, and I somehow got it to start workign again. However, I'm having no luck here. The fact that it's happened to me twice means it's probably happened to other folks as well. Also, I don't have a system restore point. Any help is appreciated. UPDATE: Reinstalling the audio drivers from the Dell site worked! I simply installed them over the current drivers (I didn't remove any hardware or anything first).
