Hey!!I was listening to music on 2.1 subwoofers then vlc mediaplayer stopped responding. Restarted comp, sound gone ever since.I am fairly good on comps.Device manager showed audio drivers to be fine and enabled.no yellow question mark. but I tried reinstalling anyway.Told me my driver was corrupted(had it in a separate hard disc partition). DOWNLOADED new ones, formated comp but to no avail. The comp is a compaq evo desktop D310. uSES SOUNDMAX ADI SP23296 DRIVERS. don't have pci drivers - any relation?Already tried xp troubleshooter. It has internal speakers so no loose wires. I have a surge protector and an apc ups so no power surge.am at the end of ma wits.any advice or suggestion, clever or otherwise, will be welcome. my email is allan.oriri@yahoo.com or also hit me at allan.oriri@gmail.com. am running on xp service pack 3.someone save me.have a blast.my name is Allan.I should mention that the dxdiag test on sound fails, both mono and stereo. Tells me it failed at step 19 with a RESULT=0x00000000 error code.donno what that means.could the sound card be the issue?

In device Manager, Under Sound Video and game controllers, right click and Uninstall everything that shows "Uninstall" as an option in the Right Click context menu. Click OK as needed.

Restart your computer. Windows will identify and reinstall devices and appropriate drivers. Have your Compaq Driver Restore CD Handy.
