Sound Card Inoperable

No Audio. I changed out the modem and sound card, then upgraded from 98 to XP Pro. I finally got the audio to work when Norton Anti Virus found the w32.welchia worm. I don't know if it was related or not but the timing is suspect. I downloaded a tool to remove the w32.welchia worm. The tool successfully removed the worm but may have taken out my audio. The message I now get is that the driver enabled but not started. How do I "start" the driver. There doesn't seem to be any switch for me to flip. Its a generic ALS4000 sound card from CompUsa.

Go into msconfig>>boot.ini select safemboot (minimal)>>services>>disable all apply the changes, uninstall and reinstall the sound drivers. If it that fixes it you can then reenable services back.Goodluck
