After reformatting and installing windows.. Sound blaster live card is not recognized, even in the bios it says unknown multimedia..
I even downloaded the soundblaster drivers and the setup terminates saying it does not detect a soundblaster live card and will close.. I have a Dell Dimension 8200.. I even took out the card and started up and shut down and put back in, sometimes when starting up, i would get a plug and play error, F1 to continue, F2 for setup....Any clues

Assuming the card came installed in the computer, did you enter your Service Tag number on Dell's site and download the drivers from there? Look at the Original Configuration of your system to make sure you're downloading the correct files for the sound card.

I did that and installed that, it reboots the computer but nothing.. It's not even listed in the device manager as unknown.. Device manager shows everything working fine, under sound, video, controllers, it shows some audio codecs, legacy audio drivers...

You probably have the integrated sound Enabled in the BIOS screens. You need to disable it in order to make installing the SB Live card easier.

Before shutting down to reboot into the BIOS (setup) remove all references to sound devices in Device manager.

I don't see any options that says integrated sound in bios... there's an option for integrated devices, i go into that and has a list of ports, pc speaker, video etc.. nothing about sound... in the device manager, when i right mouse click there is no uninstall driver option for those audio codecs, there is no drivers for sound, just codecs

OK, I looked up the specs of your computer and it appears to have come with the SB live as the only sound source. Below is a link to the driver page for your computer. There should also be some FAQs at that site.

If you have another compatible slot available on the motherboard try a different one. The further away from the top of the board the better.

When i go into PCI IRQ assignment in the bios

I see (Unknown manuf Media device)

As far as windows goes, windows doesn't think anything is in the slot period..

When I download drivers and run them, they say, don't detect any soundblaster products and will close now

What PCI slot has the assignment? That is the slot you need to place the card in. Or try to set that PCI slot back to auto or whatever the default is.

theres no way to assign a slot.. I've moved everything around, modem, video, wintv etc. even uninstalled them, still recognizes something if windows doesn't have the drivers.. Sound blaster, nothing... only bios recognizes it as (unknown manf multimedia)

I just found out the bios is reading the Wintv card as unknown mutimedia

So Bios doesn't see the Sound blaster card period.. I took out all the cards except the video card.. When I insert the soundblaster live card, nothing changes in the bios... One thing i can think of is the card burnt out or something, which I don't see how because of a viruse i had... Any other clues?

Thanks
