Hey, I upgraded from ME and i installed the soundblaster live value software from the cd...I know this is probly not the right way to do it, but it worked. Then a little while later, about a week, this devldr message kept coming up at shutdown. So, being stupid i didn't think about downloading updates, i just uninstalled the soundblaster software. Then as I was reinstalling it the computer froze and I couldnt finish it. To make a long story short, I tried installing the cd software again and I also downloaded the xp stuff from the creative website, but this did not work. But! XP installed the stuff for me when i did the add hardware wizard, I just had to have the sb live cd in to manually find the stuff it needed. But!! This did not work either...no sound...just a beep from the tower sumtimes. The device manager says it is all installed and works fine, but the sound and audio devices thing says there is no audio device.
Sorry for writing so much, I'm just really frustrated, please sum1 HELP ME!!!!!!!

I should also add that when I use some sort of mp3 player like winamp, and I click on an mp3 to play, it give an error message reading on the top: "Nullsorft waveOut plug-in v2.3" and then it says for the error: "A device has been used that is out of range for your system" Weird...please help!

I'm sure you've thought of this but:

uninstall the device from device manager, remove any software and reboot, XP should find it all on it's own, no additional drivers/software req'd.

May not be the power user's way of doing it, but works for me. I use the drivers that came with XP (and the XP updates for Creative Lab's 5.1 sound....)

good luck!

What i would do:

Go into safe mode, uninstall every bit of Creative soundblaster software you have, re-boot then add hardware then let windows XP handle all the sound drivers for now. Then go to the Creative website, download all the latest drivers for the sblive card and install them. Do a re-boot to check that everything is still fine. I personally dont install the liveware software that comes with the card because ive had countless problems with them in the past and plus i dont really miss any of that software anyways. And since not installing the liveware etc ive not had any problems with the card.
Hope this helps

Well, I went into safe mode and I deleted everything that had to do with creative, which also got rid of the drivers. So, then I restarted and then XP installed the drivers. Then I restarted again, and then I went to the creative website and installed the driver upadtes for xp. Then I restarted again....and again, and it still did not work. There is no sound, except from the tower sumtimes. The device manager says the drivers are installed and are working properly. The audio devices manager says there is no audio device.

My opinion is to try it in another pci slot. This resolved the same exact problem for me. Windows recognized it and my sound was amazing after that. :)

Stop messing about and order the creative setup CD from them. It's dead cheap. It's the only way I got the software in. BTW disable disc detector as well, after a while it conflicts with XP autoplay feature and buggers your cd drives about.

Ok well next step for me would be to test the card on another PC just to see that its still working! Umm then if you can try and put in another sound card to see if its working on your XP upgrade install.

Then if that doesnt tell you anything then im afraid its a fresh install! Only installing what you need bit by bit (hardware AND software) and testing if it works at EVERY step. There may be a conflict with something else, maybe some other hadrware or program.

If that doesnt work then Id seek professional help from a qualified person, and see if he/she can fix it :-)

Ok, well, I think I'm just going to reformat. I felt like doing it neway. So, for future reference, can sum1 just tell me what I should do once I have got XP installed. What should I do about my sound? Should I use the cd software that came with my computer for ME? or should I let XP install it? or should I get an update? Please sum1 just tell me what they did to make their sound work without problems with like devldr stuff. I have SoundBlaster Live! Value...so sum1 who also has that and made it work, please tell me wut to do :) Thanks every1 for the help, its sucks that it didnt work, but at least we all tried :) :)

Sorry i meant you just install everything as per normal, nothing EXTRA is needed. But what I did is plug the sound card in after the fresh install and then let windows detect it and use its native drivers. Once into windows test to see that its working with native drivers then if it isnt then you have another problem. Assuming it is working you then download the upgrade files from the net (www.creative.com) and just install. Re-boot and hopefully everything will still be fine......
