I have xp and a sound blaster live value card "installed" on my system. XP recognizes that the sound card is installed however when i try to install the correct drivers from creative, my system indicates that no sound blaster hardware can be detected. My motherboard has on-board sound and video that show up on my system properties. There are no drivers installed for these devices but I think it may affecting things. My media player stalls when I try to use it as well, this may have something to do with the sound card I have no idea.
Thanks in advance for the help

Maybe this is a silly question but, have you disabled the on board sound on the motherboard?? There may be a jumper setting to change or a bios setting.

Go to Window Update.
It will gives you a list of driver update? Sometimes the driver that comes w/ the hardware is out of date. I ran into that problem a few times. And I have tried Window Update, that helps. Or you can go to the product's manufactor to find the current driver.
Good luck

Doug,
Have you been in your (Device Manager) to see if your onboard card is disabled? If it isn't, when you went to get your driver from Creative Labs they would see your onboard first.
Regards

Doug, I'm having EXACTLY the same problem. My card is installed, Windows has detected it but i still have no sound at all. And when I try to install the latest drivers (downloaded from Creative) for my SB Live Value, Windows says it cannot detect any SB Live hardware. And I have already done a Windows Update on a clean install of XP Pro.
It's got me stumped! Someone suggested all this may be the result of an IRQ problem, but I don't know much about that.
I have a tech coming to look at my computer so if he fixes it I'll let you know how. But in the meantime, good luck and let me know if you find anything out?
Cheers mate... Paul

I have this exact problem and I have been looking through the posts. Everybody seems to make the same suggestions over and over but not many seem to ever resolve it. Can somebody out there that did a fresh install of XP with SB! Live Value and had no sound and then got it to work tell me how the heck they did it? I'm pulling my hair out on this.
