Ok, hey everyone.

I have a Sony Vaio VGC-RA810G (click here for a picture) and i am running Windows XP

About a month ago i was installing some programs on my computer and it didnt seem to like one of the programs that i had installed. It was being very slow and not responding most of the time so i restarted the computer and was attempting to go into safe mode then use "System Restore", but i must have pressed the wrong F key when i should have pressed F8. I cant really remember what my computer said to me but i got the message "Missing ******** *********" ([the **'s are the words i dont remember]) and the screen was just blank with that one error message on it. The only thing i was able to do was to use "Vaio Recovery Wizard".

It all worked perfectly no problems with that, but when i was reinstalling programs i had and all that stuff i forgot to set my popup blocker on internet explorer to high.

I was surfing the web and i got a popup, but i just closed it like you would normally do.

I have ZoneAlarm installed as my firewall so right away it asked me if two weird named EXE files could connect to the internet. I denied both of the files. The files were just random letters but one began with a b and the other began with an L something like "bdojvcodsi" and "Ljfiodjoidoo". I thought nothing of it and just continued what i was doing.

After leaving my computer for a little, i came back and i saw a blue error message similar to the one here. the only thing is it would go away whenever i pressed a key or moved the mouse.

I restarted the computer, hit F8 and went into safe mode then used system restore to the previous day. It seemed to all work, but after the computer restarted i got a blank screen where it normally comes to that blue "Welcome" screen where you choose the user to login as. i left it running all day thinking it might just be slow, but it stayed blank all day.

i restarted the computer and went back into safe mode. it was working fine and i got that message saying system restore was succesful as soon as i logged in. i went to start then run and opened "msconfig". i took a look at what i had loading at startup, just to check everything that needed to load was loading. i noticed the file that began with an L was checked to startup when windows does. i looked where i was located and it said C:\WINDOWS\system32

i found both the EXE files in the system32 folder and deleted them.

It turned out that the file that began with an "b" was infact a screensaver and the file that began with an "L" was some wierd looking file. So the blue error message was a screensaver and i guess the file that began with an "L" disabled the screensaver tab so when you attempt to change it you cant.

My questions are:

1) Did those two EXE files delete a system file which is causing me to not be able to see the login screen except for when im in safe mode?

2) Is there a file i can download and put into the system32 folder which will enable me to see my desktop and screensaver tab? (After deleting the file that began with an "L" i still wasnt able to see the tabs)

Thanks in advance.

My crystal ball isn't working. I guess you need to be more specific about the error message and the two L something like "bdojvcodsi" and "Ljfiodjoidoo" files. Without precise information no one here can really help you. And by the way where is the picture under (click here for a picture).

It may be my computer, but I get an error when accessing your link.

While on the subject of links I will express a pet peeve of mine. When you create a link using a word like "here", you force responders to go to that link in order to not duplicate your help. If you actually copied the URL to the post then most times others would know where you were sending someone.

Just my two cents.

Excellent point Othehill. I never thought of that. I will refrain from doing it in the future.

I tried the link and it works for me, but here is the complete URL

... Yo sharksta n peeps

... I do'nt understand how come you have the "bugs" after restore; but your story does mention pop-up blocker.

... try this:

very good anti malware prog

... its very good.

... if you hover your mouse cursor over the link ("very good anti malware prog") and you have IE (got to view+Status Bar)the link will be displayed on the status bar at the bottom of Internet Explorer so that you will know as to where you'll be going to.

... ok ya!

Grrrr
wat do I know?
... got brain freeze
