Sony Vaio PCG-K13 with windows XP installed.
I have a MS Keyboard, optical Intellimouse, wireless 8011.g integrated. Creative labs speakers hooked up to it.

COMPLETELY randomly, it skips/freezes/hangs for about .3 seconds. Every 1-3 minutes.

Now while this isn't the end of the world, it's annoying as hell, music, video, typing, mouse movement, EVERYTHING freezes for less than half a second, then goes back to normal.

I've disabled the versapad touchpad, and printer port since I'm not using them right now and it was suggested by microsoft with the intellimouse hooked up.

Any suggestions?

Update - It seems like when the screensaver is on, or I'm not sitting at the desk it doesn't happen (Winamp playing + Screensaver going), doesn't stutter/skip anymore).

When I took it out of SS, it skipped a couple times and then went back to once every minute or 2 (and yes, sometimes when I'm not touching or doing ANYTHING it will skip/freeze)

Yes, it's still under warranty, but it's my work computer, and I work online (website/store/ebay) so there's no way it's getting sent ANYWHERE.

The reason I asked whether this laptop is still under warranty is because the symptoms you described indicates you may have memory problem (hardware). It won't hurt to call Sony and find out. Or I may be wrong with this one.

Well, the thing is, I never noticed it until I set it up downstairs as a desktop/laptop type setup (hence the keyboaard, mouse, etc...) so I'm GUESSING that it's a peripheral that's causing the problems.

BUT, on the other hand, since it was never set up like this, I never used it for watching movies or listening to audio before so I may not have noticed....

Giving sony a call wouldn't hurt, but I have a feeling it's going to be a "send it in or we can't help" type of call....

It could be the peripherals. If I were you, I would disconnect everything from the laptop and see if there's a recurrence of the skips, hangs, freezes. Let hope this solve the problem.

Well, today, without changing anything, it's completely stopped doing it again, I don't think I even rebooted since yesterday. Ahh well, maybe it's software related. AIM will only start up once per boot as well (if I get disconnected, or close it, I can't open it again).

Everything I need the computer to do, is working, so I suppose I'll just not fix what isn't broken for the first time in mankinds history :)
