My laptop came back from service (non sony svc center) after fixing the DC jack. The jack got fixed but the OS wont load up. It reboots after displaying Xp logo then the blu screen appears with an error on some file apfiltr.sys. I tried using my 3 recovery CD, but first i changed bIOs to default so i can load my CD and boots it there.after succesful installing, Pc reboots and XP logo appears and stayed in that blue screen again with that error mentioned above. I also tried using F8 to safe mode to start but it wont let me.Is there some way to start the system to load windows by bypassing that error stop screen?

The file "apfiltr.sys" refers to a pointing device, ie; mouse, scroll wheel. I would suspect that in repairing the DC jack they might have disconnected your scroll wheel connector and failed to reconnect it. I would let them open it back up and connect the connector.

Thanks for this message! I have a VAIO as well. I wanted to install XP Pro clean, so I blew away everything (including the system partition) and was up and running. However, the mouse was not working and I was getting the same blue screen you received. I took it as far as to actually load DOS (to get past the blue screen), blew away the offending driver and tried a variety of things to get the mouse working and the correct drivers installed. Anyway, what I neglected to mention what this was a hand-me-down Vaio whose only knock on it was that something had been dropped on the keyboard that required repair at one time. After reading your message and having tried everything else, I thought to myself, is it possible that the connection to the Touchpad had somehow been loosened. So, I turned off the machine, vigorously pressed and tapped around the Touchpad, turned on the power and it worked! Touchpad and all...no blue screen! It's still very sensitive and the Touchpad will stop functioning if you bump it a certain way, but I plan to open it up and verify the Touchpad is connected correctly. Thanks for the post...I would never have tried that...lucky as it may be.
