I have a Sony Laptop AMD Athlon(tm) processor, 1 GHz, 256 MB of RAM Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2 I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software to the ethernet Realtek RTL8139/8 10x Family Fast Ethernet NIC.
I still can not connect to the internet. The icons show connection, however, the packet size is very small.
IF the Icon shows connection and the packet size is small then you have to check the IP address and LAN physical connection .
