I put my laptop into hibernation mode and now it will not come back out. When I push the power button the lights flash and the screen flickers once, but no luck. The power adapter and battery seem fine. The only thing I can think of is the hard drive went west. Any suggestions?

you might want to check the processor. There is a post in the ME section about a sony laptop with the same problem.
I had the same thing happen a few months ago with a Dell laptop... seems the processor, not the HDD went south. I put the HDD in another laptop and it works fine. The system is showing the same signs of which you are describing.
