sony aw-q170a dvd rw is no longer accessible

Specs: Windows XP
All of a sudden the drive is gone from my list when i click on computer. I get the message driver is corrupted. Can not find a driver anywhere to download.

A few thoughts:

Does it show in Device Manager and/or Disk Management?

If it failed recently you could try System Restore (if you know approximately when).

Most likely the driver was part of XP so type sfc /scannow in the Run box. Let it run through and hope it finds and replaces the driver file.

Error messages are often MS near misses. It could be that the drive itself has failed.

That is a very old IDE optical drive. As stated above, look in Device Manager. If the drive show up there but has a problem then try removing it from the listing in Device manager and rebooting. Windows should re-install it automatically.

The drive may have died. Can you open the tray when in Windows?
