Hello friends:
I burnt 18 songs to a cd, i closed the cd. I coppyed 5 best songs from the CD to a folder on my desk top. When i try and play the 5 songs that are in the folder on my desk top,the songs wont play unless i leave the Cd in the drive.
Is there a way that 5 songs can be played from my desk top without leaving the cD in?
Thank you my friends very much for helping me.
Its Linda

are you SURE you did a copy and paste from the CD?? it sounds more like you created shortcuts and placed them in the folder so that when you click on them. they are looking for the CD to get the songs. make sure it does not have those shortcut arrows on the icons. or jsut try it again because if you truly DId copy it. it should not be looking for the CD.

when you burn songs to a CD they are changed to CDA format, if you try to put them back onto the HDD with a copy/paste or drag/drop you will have to use a utility to change them back to MP3.

If you use windows media player 10, rip the tracks off the cd and save them. Then they will be in the library and you can play the with WMP.

You cannot copy and paste tracks from an audio CD. The files you see on the CD are not the actual files but shortcuts to the starting point of the song on the CD. This is why you need the disc in the drive.
You can use media player as rhawk7938 suggested or you can use a thrid party program to rip the song off the CD. CDex is one of the best and it's free.

Kurt I will disagree with you as you can copy/paste or drag/drop songs from a music CD to the HDD however that does no good unless you change the format.

It is my experience that you can't even see the songs on a CD. You can only see the shortcuts.
The songs must be 'ripped' from a CD.Regards,
Bryan

I stand corrected, you are both right, I forgot and left the CD in the drive, therefore it showed the correct amount of Mb's for the track.

FJB, no you cannot. The files you see in Explorer are shortcuts, not the actual music file. That is why they show up as only being 1k in size.
And that is why the original poster said the files would not work unless she had the disc in the drive. What she copied to the folder on her desktop was the shortcut and that is why it would only play when she put the disc in.

Wow, i sure got lots of help. I just want to say thank you to all that posted an answer to my question. Your all such wonderful friends. Im sure that somthing will work out. Have a nice evening.
