Ok. I know very little of computers so be patient in helping. Here's the scoop. I turn on my computer and the only thing that apperars on screen is the windows xp screensaver (green hills, blue sky) No icons, no taskbars, no start button, nothing. Nothing can be accessed. I tryed pushing F8 when it was booting and after waiting about a minute or so the screen went black and that was all. I have tryed pushing Ctrl+Alt+DLT when windows is starting which does bring up the task manager but.....anything I try to run or select (including explorer.exe) comes up with an error message reading "only part of the readprocessmemory or writeprocessmemory requested was completed. That is about all I can tell you. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

You may be able to get more info from the Event viewer .
HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

Enter the message source and ID in the text field, then click G

How can I get to those when I can't access anything though? I am on a different computer now. My computer is just the screensaver. no place to type in any website. I made it to the screen to pick one of the three safe modes but when I choose one, a large list comes up and then it goes to a blue screen that says to restart and select safe mode again. regardless of all of this, no options get me to a screen with icons or a start menu or anything just the screensaver.

You say that all you have is screensaver, when you mean WALLPAPER.
Screensaver is a moving display on your monitor screen.
Wallpaper is just like a background picture. Can you click the right mouse button to bring up a menu ?? If so, then go to "Arrange Icons by >" then click "Show Desktop Icons".
Here is some more things to look at that I have saved on a file:
Taskbar and Icons missing:
Try this:
http://www.computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/85915.htmlAlso try this:
http://www.computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/86113.html

I will check back in 6 or 8 hours, to see how you are doing.
Also, at the top of this web page, you can do a SEARCH of this forum for others that have posted the same problem that you have.
In the left hand box type:
taskbar and desktop icons
In the right hand box:
find and click WIN XP
Then click SEARCH

Thanx Chuck I will search those other options. Right clicking does nothing and the majority of ideas that people have posted include going to a website (i.e http://www.computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/85915.html) but i can't access any websites from my computer. thr only thing accessible from the time the wallpaper comes up is the task manager if I press Ctrl+ALT+DLT right away as it comes up but, as I said it is pointless because anything I try to run comes up with the error message "only part of the readprocessmemory or writeprocessmemory requested was completed" I won't be able to check in until very late tonight but I greatly appreciate any suggestions and I am trying them all. Thank you

Try disconnecting your cd or dvd rom & see if it is OK .
This also may help .

More thoughts:
Have you tried to get into Windows Safe-Mode ?
(Hold down F8 key during boot)
A Description of the Safe Mode Boot Options in Windows XP
Or tried any others in the Options list ?

I am no expert, but sometimes I get involved with trying to help someone.I will have to save this web page, in order to

By the way, up above you put CPU/Ram: ????CPU/RAM
CPU is the type of Processor in your computer
and its speed.
RAM is how much RAM memory you have.
For me I would put P4,1.5/512 MBRight click My Computer,
then Properties.
All the above information can be found on the
General tab.
(I know that you cannot get to My computer)Such information is helpful to people that are
trying to help you.
