It seems that some files and directories on my computer cannot be dragged & dropped. When I attempt to do so no error message is given, no sounds made, they just don't move but stay highlighted. It seems it doesn't matter where the files are; I've had it happen when trying to move a desktop icon, when trying to drag a folder of music onto winamp's media library.
I've checked using 'unlocker' to see if any programs had locked the file/directory and nothing has. The one it is happening to right now is a directory of music.
Hard to know what details to give for this, I have recently installed the latest nvidia drivers, no other changes really. Let me know if there's any other information that would be helpful.

There's no edit function so this has to be in another post.
It seems it isn't files & folders that can't be dragged - it is ANYTHING. For example, when I posted this message I went to my "My computing.net" page and tried to drag the favicon from my address bar to my bookmarks toolbar so I could keep an eye on it frequently and it won't let me drag that either. It seems that right now I can't drag anything at all.
In this case there may be some other relevant information: I recently got a new Logitech MX Revolution mouse. This doesn't happen all the time so I doubt it is something wrong with the hardware; all single clicks are registered fine.
It is as though something is constantly trying to steal focus - I tried dragging a folder in a window behind firefox and the focus instantly switched back to firefox.

Unfortunately I had to exit firefox to test, but it seems it still happens when firefox isn't running.

Thanks for the reponse.
Both of those keys already exist in my registry. The problem isn't happening right now, but I can tell you that they were in existence whilst the problem was occurring. As I said before though, the problem is sporadic and I expect it to happen again soon.

sporadic? Normally the problem is either it work or it doesn't work. I think you may have something running that at times disable the drag & drop. I would do the troubleshooting using MSCONFIG method.

Do you mean by checking what I have running at any one time? If so, I run process explorer from sysinternals all the time on my second monitor; there's nothing out of the ordinary running and nothing new that I have started using. Anything that is running now has been running since before the problem started occurring.

I have now tried, as suggested on another forum, running:
regsvr32 ole32
regsvr32 /i shell32And rebooting, but this didn't work either. Any more suggestions?
