Sometimes when the computer starts, some icons do not show up in the system tray.
How can I fix this? It started happening especially after I did a big startup cleanup in which I removed several processes in startup, then after that, about maybe 3 out of the total 10 or so icons did not load.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I suspect the icon were programs which normaly start up when windows loads.
By cleaning up you have more than likely removed them from the start up group.
did you sat 10 ??? why so many.
To keep things efficient the only programs that should start on boot up is your anty virus, fire wall if running one which is not part of you av any systems monitoring tools.
Any other non essential or protection programs can be started form the programs menue when needed.
This will speed up you laod time and increase the ammount of memory available to the os.
As you dint speciflicly state which I cons I hope that is of some help to you.

I am sure that only the icons don't show up, but the programs still run (they show as processes and their windows also show, such as Winamp, but they don't show up in systray even when they run unless I restart the programs.)
All the icons showed up just fine when I had even more items in startup.

Hi
I would like you to follow this procedure.
1 Click on START2. Click on RUN
3 In the run command box type in MSCONFIG and hit the enter key.
4. The configuration utility will open up for you.
5 click on the START UP TAB.
You will see a list of programs, some will have a tick in the box next to them, some will have no tick next to them.
The programs with a tick are the ones which start when windows loads. The ones with no tick will not start when windows loads.
With a few exceptions don't confuse these with the windows services which start automatically.
In this list you can remove or add the ticks in the boxes next to the program descriptions as you wish.
Once you have chosen which ones you wish to start and which ones you don't, click on the APPLY tab.
Make no other changes within this utility.
You will receive a message if you wish to EXIT AND RESTART or EXIT WITHOUT RESTARTING.
Click on RESTART.
When the computer reboots you will see a pop up box saying that you are using a selective start up.
Place a tick in the white box and click OK. you will not see this again unless you use the utility again.
All second party programs which you have installed and ticked to start up will have icons in the system tray, unless you have selected the SHOW ICON IN SYSTEM TRAY when you installed the program.
As I said before choose only the programs that you wish to start at boot up, all other are not necessary as you can start them when and if you need to use them. This will give windows much more memory to play with and your comp will start much faster.
The only programs which I have starting automatically is my Anti virus, Graphics card control utility, Systems monitor, and Messenger, all the rest I start when and if i need to use them.
Hope that helps

OOps This PART was meant to read as follows.
All second party programs which you have installed and ticked to start up will have icons in the system tray, unless you have selected the DO NOT SHOW ICON IN SYSTEM TRAY when you installed the program.
And of course any second party keyboard and mouse specific drivers which need to run in the background.

Yep I know how to do this already; those programs I need for my computer.
Anyhow thanks for the help, although I just removed the 'broken' icon programs and started them manually.
