I do a lot of beta testing, freeware avaluations for web posting, and things like that. Ever since I upgraded from WinME to WinXP Pro, I can't seem to download anything if the download is directly related to an FTP link in the browser window.
I click on the link - and nothing happens. No error message or anything else. Just that nothing happens. Using the context menu, I've tried those options too - and no results. This is really annoying because then I have top copy the entire path into my FTP program, where I often have to modify that, before I can get to the actual FTP server. Frustrating . . .
BUT - anytime that I click on a link for a file that's directly accessible from a web page, then the download works without a problem. I'm sure that this is just some silly configuration quirk - but I haven't been able to find it. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.
Please - only facts, and not conjecture or tips, okay? I need a solution.
Hey Intel, AMD rulez!

I have seen the problem, and seen posts from others with the same problem, but I haven't found the answer yet. When I have problems accessing an ftp site, I switch to the Opera browser and it downloads the files with no problem or hesitation:

Sheeesh, haven't used anything aside from IE5 and IE6 in so long, that it took your response to wake me up. Tried the same pages and files with Communicator, and all of the FTP stuff worked right away, and really FAST too . . .
From what I hear, Communicator is supposed to be more stable than Opera - and cheaper at that. Ah, well. Thanks for waking me up though, it's appreciated.
;)
Hey Intel, AMD rulez!

Yep, I heard others say that they could download from ftp with Netscape ok too at sites that don't work with IE. Don't let that pricetag at the Opera download fool you either, as there is an entirely free version too.
