Specs: Windows XP
i ws having same problem of downgrading from win7 or vista to win xp.all u need is to play around keys to access you bios usually del esc or f10.go to system configuration en change sata mode to ide.insert winxp en follow instruction.but note this will change ur previously win7 or vista,this change will force you to reinstall windows and thats whre windows xp cn b laptop is hp 620.hope this is gonna be fruitful

That way will work, but installing the SATA drivers either by using a floppy & pressing F6 or by slipstreaming them into the XP disk are the preferable methods.

In addition to the above you should understand that running your SATA II hard drive in an IDE mode slows the transfer rate down and not running in AHCI mode may sacrifice some additional features, depending on the hard drive model.
