Does anyone know how to setup windows XP to use a software RAID array??? I've heard that everything is there to do it, but if there is any software i need to download, where can i get it?
all the software comes from mobo manufacturer, xp only sees it as one big hard drive, all the setup is from the mobo website for your board

I use a HPT370 softeware RAID controller on my mobo and XP Pro recognised it straight away, so I would suggest that krusty isn't strictly correct. I didn't have to do any RAID-specific setup either. it did ask if I wanted to supply drivers for any RAID devices, but I just waited and it went ahead and installed its own. Works fine too.

You don't need any special hardware for software raid. In XP to use software raid you have to convert the disks from the "Basic" partition structure to "Dynamic" partition structure in order to crate stripe sets and mirror sets (Raid 0 and 1). This is all done is Disk Management.
A word of warning: converting to dynamic converts the entire hdd (doesn't take long, a few secs) but the only way to go back to basic is to delete all partitions. Only Windows XP can read dynamic disks at the moment, not even Partition Magic 7 can touch dynamic disks.
Summary: you've got your definitions backwards. using a RAID controller, is by definition, a hardware RAID. using XP's Disk Management without a RAID controller is a software RAID. in a RAID 0, two 60GB drives...
