While trying to install program software with compressed files I get about 60% thru the first FD when it hangs with the message "unable to close file ****.dl_. Whereupon I find myself back at the start. The next try it might be at the 20% point with "unable to close file ***.ex_. Is there a solutionto this ??? Running Win XP with plenty of HDD & RAM.

Hi,
There are several things to check.
Is the program written for XP?
Are there applications running in the background causing a conflict?
Have you disabled the anitvirus program and others that are in the taskbar?
Are the drivers for the program the latest version?

I would go to the web site for the program you are trying to install and see if there are known issues relating to Win XP.
You might try using the Compatiblity Wizard to install the program.

Some programs will install ok and then screw up when you try to run them. If you get to this step, try the Windows Compatibility Wizard.

Just some simple things to try.
Good luck,
XDon
