Im trying to use the Line In to receive music recordings from a Recording unit. It says I need to make sure that the Sound Card is set for "Line In" and when I go to Control Panel and click on the Microphone for recording settings it says "SndVol32.exe" is NOT INSTALLED and I need to Install it from Add/Remove Programs. I went there & its not listed. I've done a search and SndVol32.exe is NOT on the HD at all!!! I saw and old posting where it was suggested to search for the Windows17 Cab file and "extract it from that" but that Cab file is also NOT on my HD.
It appears that this file did not come with my $3,000 3 gig Toshiba Laptop with Win XP Pro. I'm having problems trying to use Recording Software. Any ideas?? My soundcard that came with this Top of the line Toshiba P25-S609 is "Realtek AC97" Any ideas???? How/where I get download the SndVol32.exe that the control panel says is Not installed??? What to do????
HELP,
Phil - thanks!!

If you have a Windows XP CD, here's what to do. If not, Solarian's idea will work. Just remember to put the file in the C:\WINDOWS\System32\ folder on your hard drive.
Put in your Windows XP CD.
Click Start -> Run... -> type "cmd" (without quotes) -> click OK
Type "X:" (without quotes) and press Enter. Replace X with the letter of your CD-ROM drive.
Type "cd i386" (without quotes) and press Enter.
Finally, type the following (on one line):
expand sndvol32.ex_ %systemroot%\system32\sndvol32.exe
BTW, there's a space after sndvol32.ex_ and the beginning of %systemroot...
You should see a positive message telling you about an increase of 145%.
Now you can do your recording!
