Wierd problem I'm having.
Using Outlook 2002, I keep getting error 0x80042109 -- Outlook is unable to connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server.

All the settings are correct... they have been checked and rechecked a dozen times.

I can recieve mail fine.

Tried telnet [servername] 25
---> "could not open connection to the host, on port 25"

Actually I tried setting up a couple of other accounts (sympatico, yahoo, rogers) just to see if I could get those to work, but all have same problem. (Also tried telnet on those servers)

Have Kerio personal firewall and AVG virus scan. Error still occurs upon disabling both.

Tried creating new profile, same issue.

This computer is part of a small office network (just 2 computers). Linksys wireless B router (Firmare v. 1.50.10). However, I don't believe that the router's firewall is the issue since the other computer can reciece email just fine.

Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

The other PC can recv, but can it send?

Port 25 is the default SMTP port.

Likely your ISP's SMTP is down.

Try pinging the SMTP.

Most sercers will not accept a telnet conection to the SMTP port.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

Hi Glider

Boot into "safe mode" and see if you can connect to your SMTP server via telnet

telnet x.x.x.x 25

where x.x.x.x is the IP address of the email box.

If it works in safe mode then there is some type of port blocking going on.

I had the same issue using MCaffee antivirus, there latest version added in some port blocking. I also got "could not open connection to the host, on port 25" when in normal mode.

If on SP2 make sure you also look into the XP Firewall. If not I suspect that the Kerio firewall still runs something in the background when closed that is blocking access.

Check the eventlogs for conenction errors.
See if Kerio has any logs you can check

Hope this helps.
