Sorry if this is in the wrong section. I have a question about setting up email. I have two computers, a desktop and laptop. The desktop uses the smtp settings from my isp to send mail.I need my laptop to send email from where ever i am which means i cant use my isp's smtp settings as it wont send. I have been using the gmail server to send mail form there but it sends as if i actually sent it from gmail not my pop3 email. Does anyone know of any servers that will be able to handle my emails whilst still remaining to look like they were sent from my pop3 address?

Where is the desktop?
Where might the notebook be?
Are you using 2 different isp's? Is this the problem?
The problem is many isp's will not allow email to be send threw there email server if it is not there email address.
You may have to call the isp to find this out. This means that the smpt:port 25 is closed.

To test if you can send mail threw your notebook. Try the following.

Select RUN
Type CMD
Type telnet name of isp

What was the response.
Did it say connected?
Did it say refused?
What was the response?

These may help.
Proxy Server
http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/proxy.htm
Do you have several machines on a network, but only one connection to the internet? Wish you could browse the net from the other machines, just like you can from the machine that's connected? Then what you're looking for is called a Proxy Server, and AnalogX has just what you want. AnalogX Proxy is a small and simple server that allows any other machine on your local network to route it's requests through a central machine. So what does that mean in English? Simple, run Proxy on the machine with the internet connection; configure the other machines to use a proxy (it's very easy, there's a detailed description in the readme), and voila! You're surfing the web from any other machine on your network! Supports HTTP (web), HTTPS (secure web), POP3 (recieve mail), SMTP (send mail), NNTP (newsgroups), FTP (file transfer), and Socks4/4a and partial Socks5 (no UDP) protocols! It works great with Internet Explorer, Netscape, AOL, AOL Instant Messenger, Microsoft Messenger, and many more!

RevilloC MailServer
http://www.revilloc.com/mailserver/default.asp
Send and collect all the emails for your home or office network, whilst saving dial up time. The mail server now contains a web proxy server, so you can now view internet web pages from your networked machines.

The mailserver is designed to collect all your emails in one dial up connection. This will save your on-line time and telephone charges for not having each individual email client on your network collecting their own email. You can now collect all emails from multiple POP servers.

The mail server will work as a standalone server on a shared PC or as a network mailserver. Now there is no longer a need for each user to dial up to collect their email.

This mail server is a fully featured SMTP and POP3 server with unlimited connections or accounts, with ease of use being a priority. It has a scheduled send and receive, with a program override to allow outgoing email to be sent immediately and manual override from the mailbox tray icon.
