Here's my small problem...

1. New popup window in IE6 causes "not responding error"
2. Sound card (audigy) spontaneously uninstalls inself.
3. Sound card control utilities sometimes can't access sound card.
4. ATI All in Wonder DVD player won't work. Gives "playback failed due..." message.
5. ATI TV volume control doesn't work.
6. Backup utility in XP crashes system.
7. Boot-up takes about 5 times to actually boot up. Most of the time the system just crashes with a big blue screen saying something about protecting me from a serious error.
8. Autorun doesn't work for DVDs or CDs. Not a problem for DVDs since DVD player doesn't work anyway.
9. When I shut down XP, it often crashes.
10. Zonealarm doesn't remember its settings after a shutdown. Have to tell it all that it can run or can't run upon bootup.

Other than that, XP runs PERFECTLY!!!!!

HA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!! What a piece of crap. I've reinstalled many times, updated drivers, updated the BIOS, swapped out hardware, etc, etc.

I hate Bill Gates.

Please help.

If there is a single cause for your small problem, it could be bad RAM. Download a memory diagnostic such as memtest86 and run it. You can get memtest86, it is free, at
http:teresaudio.com/memtest/

If that isn't it, format your HD and start over.

1. are you running some sort of pop-up stopper? If not, get one; if so, dump the one you have and get one that works :-)
2&3 Check the Creative web site and any support groups.
4&5. I do not have the AIW. My 7500 has never given me a problem. Nothing I can suggest.
6. I have never experienced this failure, so I cannot offer any help. What utility are you using?
7. Boot-up takes less than a minute and has never failed.
8.Autorun works for me, so I can't help you here.
9. I have not had a crash of XP in the 2 months that I have been using it.
10. Z/A Pro remembers its settings (it just will not let me reconnect with my ISP without re-booting).

I presume that you have run the compatibility checker during inswtall of XP.

Oh, I have no love for B.G., either.

is your video card on the hcl? if not get one that is ,the free version of za doesnt work isnt compatible with and will crash xp
if you have free version remove it
yes could be bad ram, also do you have cd burner a lot of issues trace back to easy cd creator or many burning software programs installed uninstalled,
a clean start could very well solve your problems as long as you dont add back the incompatible software again,is all your hardware xp compatible on the hcl? are you loading anything that you are told is not a signed driver and could cause system instability, most problems like yours are created by not doing your homework before install and removing any incompatible software such as older anti virus cdburning programs etc. if you have older system do clean install

Okay, here's some results...

I used memtest86 and my memory repeatedly passed with no errors.

I removed the free version of ZA.

It appears that my video card and audio card are on the hcl.

I discovered that the blue screen produces a message relating to a problem with bsudfrdr.sys. Amazingly enough that is associate with... INCD. Ah-Ha! A CD burner. I removed INCD.

Things are suddenly better. The system seems to boot reliably, ntbackup works without crashing the system (this is a major breakthrough!), I can shut down the PC without it hanging, so far so good with the audigy.

But I still have a huge problem with IE6. It runs perfectly until clicking on a hyperlink opens up a NEW window. In that case, part of the new window loads and then hangs. Both the new IE6 and old IE6 windows don't work and I get a "program not responding" error.

Thanks for the help so far!

Robert.

I have run the free ver of ZA for three months on XP with no problem. I did have to update my AIW drivers. I also had to remove INCD and I went Netscape 4.79. Good luck!
