OS: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
CPU/Ram: 3 GHz / 1919 MB
Product: Clone / CLONE

The other day I did a clean install of a Logitech webcam using the following procedure;

1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG --> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Selective Startup
3. Uncheck Process SYSTEM.INI file
4. Uncheck Process WIN.INI file
5. Uncheck Load Startup Items
6. Click on the Services tab
7. At the bottom, check Hide All Microsoft Services
8. Uncheck all boxes in the window or click the button labeled Disable All
6. Click OK
7. Click Restart

After performing the necessary steps, restore your system by doing the following:

1. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG--> Click OK
2. On the General tab, choose Normal Startup
3. Click OK
4. Click YES, when asked to restart your computer

Since that time my computer boots very slow. ie; It takes 3 minutes for the screen to go from power on to Windows start. Used to take about 20-30 seconds. During this time the Asus screen is displayed. From Windows start to the first desktop icon is taking longer than it used to.

When I was doing the clean boot setup I was informed that Files Access was Denied and that I had to use Admin logon. I am the Admin. What else do I do. Not even sure if this Admin stuff is related to the slow boot or not. But I thought that the more info you had the better and quicker the help.

... strange way to install a webcam?

... I would be inclined to do a "system restore" via safe mode to a date prior the "installation(?)"

... then when its ok ... install the cam ..normal fashion!

I tried a system restore. The computer could not restore. I don't know why/
I thought that when one did a complete image restore from an image backup the entire disk was re-partitioned and the backup image was Restore to the system drive thereby replacing the computer restore points as well.
Just like a new computer. What I don;t know is the MO stuff that happens before Windows begins to install during boot. That appears to be where the slowdown occurs. I guess I am just not sure of the boot sequence when one boots their computers. If I knew the exact sequence I would know where to look.
Something like; MO stuff, system.ini,win.ini, etc. and what each does.

... go to "start" run (type) regedit [press enter]

... follow this path:

+HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run <<click "run" folder

... in the right "pane" you'll see programs that "kick in" as Windows boots up which are not always displayed in msconfig

... carefull if you right click delete any as once gone they're gone!

Supportt resp[onse from Asus was;

For your problem, please enter BIOS->advanced->USB configuration->Legacy USB support, set it to disabled.

Did this and time was reduced from 3 minutes to 10 seconds. I can't find anything not working, yet.
