Comment: Hi, is there a good tweak where I can install to boast up my PC performance? I find that my XP is getting slower. I've did a scan using Adaware, spyware S&D and avast! anti-v. No virus or spyware found. So what could be slowing it down? How do I have it faster?

Reply: (edit)As far as performance tweaks, download TweakUI, Xteq Pro, or buy TweakXP Pro. But if you're not afraid to do manual tweaks to you're registry, http://www.tweakxp.com has all kinds of tweaks. Just heed the warnings and BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY before trying any of them. Downloading a program called ERUNT makes that task effortless. I hope this helps.

Reply: (edit)I too am having a difficult time with my computer. I have Windows XP on a Pentium III, 497 MHz, 256mg of Ram. I received a Trojan virus that seems to be deleted now with the help of the most recent Norton. However, when I first log on, it seems to be doing fine, but as time goes on and I surf more websites, it slows down and then eventually won't open any more pages. I have defragged, optimized and cleaned temp files and adjusted everything that I thought could drag down the speed but nothing seems to work. Please help???

Reply: (edit)You may be bogged down by spyware, adware, or malware. Download Spybot S&D, install it then follow the prompts. Make sure to download and install and new definition updates before running the program. You may also consider downloading Microsoft Antispyware from here http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/OptimizeXP.html good luck. I hope this helps.

Reply: (edit)Jo, When you delete a virus or Trojan, you have to shut down the System Restore, or it could come right back. For slowness, I am surprised no one is suggesting clean out startup: run, msconfig, OK, startup software, video cards, sound, printers...none of this needs to be in there and all slows you down. leave antivirus, and firewall and everything el;se should be unchecked. If something really need to be in there to work, you can always put it back!
