When I installed windows XP It would take about 1 second between when I finish typing my password and when I am able to use the computer. Now it takes about 20 seconds.

I have installed a lot of programs. The only programs that are allowed to start when I log in are MSN messenger, Norton AntiVirus and Device Drivers.

These were all there back when I could login in about 1 second. Why is it running so slowly now?

I checked MSconfig, and there aren't too many extras running. I think it might be a registry problem. How would I go about fixing it?

I have tried "Registry Fixing" software, none of them have helped me.

Any ideas?

(I don't want to reinstall windows.)

David

IF you have a "speed disk" program, use that. Also it would help if you defragmented your HDD.
Doing those things should help.

I Defragmented the entire harddisk and it did not make any difference.

Any other ideas?

Try disabling the virus protection and messenger one at a time to see which one is the culprit.

That should tell you if not something else is wrong.
