Slow XP
Name: William Lockie Date: December 11, 2003 at 18:12:51 Pacific OS: WXP CPU/Ram: 256
Comment:
I did a clean install of XP after updating the BIOS. I did this to get a stable machine. I have not noticed any improvement in stability (it's only been a few days) since installation. The one thing I have noticed is that it is slow between clicking an icon and the resulty. Slow enough that I click again and the sometimes I have the progrm open twice. What might be causing this? The mouse has been tested. I even changed the mouse. The problem is a general slowness. When I click to expand a drive it may take as long as 5 seconds. When I had W98 with the same hardware a click on the drive ico in My Computer opened the drive immediately. Bill

You didn't put the cpu speed in your message header. WinXP needs much more horsepower to run compared to Win98. The 256 ram is only just adequate.

My cpu speed is 1.4. Memory is probably the problem. I'll get more. Thanks for the intelligent answer. Bill
