My computer is processing everything very slowly. In the past, I have reformatted and re-installed everything. I really do not want to do that again. Takes too much time. What software app would u recommend to enable the PC to operate at peak proficiency again?

Have a look at WinPatrol to take control of many aspects of your operating system. It is a very good, easy to use piece of freeware.

WinPatrol will prevent unwanted hidden entries embedding themselves on your operating system, let you take control of what runs on your pc and is really light on resources.

I find it an extremely good system optimiser and third line of real time defence.

After you get your system running well again, purchase a program like Ghost or Acronis and make an image of it on DVDs or a second hard drive.

Then you can go back to a well running system in a few minutes by restoring the image.

I have Acrornis. I would rather just have it where I dont have to reload the image every so often
