OS: XP Home 2002 SP2
CPU/Ram: Centrino 1.8 ghz, 1 GB RA
Product: IBM ThinkPad Z60m
Comment:

I just bought a new IBM (Lenovo) ThinkPad Z60m. My problems are when I hit the power button and select "Hibernate" sometimes it doesn't hibernate or take at least 5 minutes to hibernate if I leave it. Today when I did it, it instantly went into hibernation (like it should). My other problem is I'm running Office 2003, and if I try to open a Word file from My Computer, Windows Explorer freezes, and I have to go CTRL-ALT-DEL and end task for explorer.exe. Files open no problem if I open the file from Word (but I find that cumbersome). Any help would be great thanks!

If you "just bought" this Lenovo, return it for exchange to eliminate the good chance that this unit is problem-proned.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

Okay, I didn't just buy it, almost had it for 2 weeks. I got it for a steal from Staples, because it was the last one and discontinued (I actually bought a Z60t, and upgraded to the m). Could it be a software conflict? When I was looking to buy a laptop, I was either going to buy either a ThinkPad or a Mac, and Macs are too overpriced, and I paid significantly less than if I bought direct from Lenovo.

LOL I meant to say that this unit may have other hidden defects not yet detected - hence "problem-proned" What would you call this?

Nigel87,

Did it come with warranty? The hibernate & standby problems are 99% hardware-related.

Yep, 3 year warranty (another reason why I upgraded to the m). I'll give IBM a call.

Not IBM - call Lenovo.
