Help.

I managed to rid my PC of the MBlast exe and its footprint file, and I've updated the patch etc so the PC should be clean.

Now though strange stuff is happening. Whilst on my desktop Task manager is reporting that my CPU (2.5GhZ) is running at 100%. Even though I have checked and no programs are running.

This is strange - I am not running any hidden programs and the PC is chugging along. It's taking me 2 minutes to open a folder.

Can anyone advise - is this anything to do with Mblast ?

Thanks
Richard

Something is running. If you check in MSCONFIG and the startup folder, there has to be something running. Did you check the tasklist? That would show what is eating all those CPU cycles.

Formatting is a bit drastic for now - in my opinion.

I have the same problem. The computer slowed right down after I got rid of the blaster worm. I have ran sfc /scannow but that didn't fix it. I found that patch 811493 could slow down a system so I uninstalled that, no fix, so I reinstalled it. I'm out of ideas here. Formatting is never an option.

formatting is sometimes the only option, unless you want a tiny bit of 'life'.

I dont agree though with something running, if you cancel the degrag. program half way moving a big file, the hd still continues to go crazy until its sorted its self out, even when no programs are running. Worth it.

FORMAT the badboy.

I have a Amd Athlon XP 1.67ghz 2000+ and i have never even gotten the msblast worm. But i have installed the patch and it hasnt slowed down my computer. Probably the worm is still active in ur computer..run symantec fixblast.exe from the syamantec website

I agree with Mike on this one!! I had the same problem after removing the blaster. I checked my start up in msconfig and found some interesting things running. After doing that, i went into add remove programs and find all kinds of stuff I never knew I had. After removing the strange stuff in start up and deleting the unwelcome programs. I've ran faster than ever. You should try this before reformating.
Worked for me!
