When I start up my laptop it takes a long time to load everything but it runs fine afterwards. My other computer is older than this one and has a quicker start up. What is causing it to have a slow start up?

Is it slow in POST with the splash screen showing or is it slow when it gets to the desktop and is loading all of the start up items?
I would take a peek inside the start up menu and disable itms that you don't necessarily need to load at startup.
You'd be surprised at how much stuff creeps in there.
To do this click on Start/run/Type the following:
msconfig
Click ok
click on the start up tab.
Uncheck items that you don't want loading at start up.

Yeah it is slow when it gets to the desktop and is loading all of the start up items. In that system config, the names of the items are unclear such as tp4ex and ccApp. How do I know which ones I should uncheck?

Hi Victoria,

How much hard disk space have you got on your laptop? how much is free?

Also in addition to disabling various items, I recommend you defrag the hard drive, re-install NAV (sometimes DAT files cause corruption) and maybe also check what processes take up the most amount of memory.

tp4ex is associated with IBM Thinkpad so doesn't look harmful, ccApp is associated with Norton AntiVirus 2003, so that is ok too.

If you find a process that is a security risk in your running processes window than you should be worried. To check, press Ctrl + Alt + Del than select processes tab and compare with link below.

To check what your running applications are in run>msconfig and whether they are legitimate check with link below: -
