When I right click a file in explorer, the context menu takes 15 seconds to appear.
I did further tests and found the following :
It only happens for files, not folders.
It only happens when I'm connected to internet.I assume that this context menu is trying to get information from outside (or send), but what ?
I uninstalled pretty much everything and it doesn't seem to be related to bogus software -asside from windows itself-.

Ok, here is what I found :
By renaming (registry)
HKCR\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
in something else
(HKCR\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers)
It immediately solved the problem.I DO NOT know what this stuff does nor the side effects. I will try to understand it better.

I have a similar problem with my work computer. The Right-Click on any link ONLY in IE is just as slow. Nowhere else in Windows 2000 does this happen. Think this might work here as well?

This happened with one of my networked computers. The right click menu contained items from a WinAce installation on another computer. I uninstalled WinAce on the other computer and the problem stopped. I believe it is possible to remove WinAce entries from the right click menu without uninstalling but, after spending two hours trying to figure out the problem - I wanted to wash my hands of the whole thing. BTW, this was an extreme example because the menu was looking on the network for the WinAce items, but many 3rd party programs will slow up the right click menu noticeably. Jill.
