Hi everyone.
WinXP Home SP2
512 RAM
V.92/56K PCI datafax Intel Modem Dim TIEDNew Computer. Things are running VERY slow with my dialup.
Connection speed says "45.2 kbps" however it seems more like 10-20.
When I was using Windows 2000, 128 MB RAM on a different computer I was moving much, much faster. SAME line, ISP(Netzero),settings, etc. Is there something different with XP that would dramatically slow down the speed? Why is it telling me "45 kbps" when it's obviously moving slower than my old comp's "33kbps".
Do "running Processes" have an effect on connection speed even though CPU usage by processes is nil?
Would changing modem card make a difference?
Suggestions, advise welcome. Thanks.

have you tried running any spyware or adware removers, try that if you havent, also do a Disk Cleanup and Disc Defrag and see if it makes any difference. also try emptying your temporary internet files through the Tool tab at the top of the Internet Explorer screen, or in your control panel.
Windows XP Home
Pentium 4 3.0ghz
256mb DDR
120gb Hard Drive
ATI Radeon 9200 Series
16x DVD Dual Layer RWMart

thanks for replying.
Yes, I've tried all of the above. btw i've only had the new Dell for less than a week.
I noticed the slower internet speed from the start.
Running processess?

I have Netzero, and Netscape browser.
My connection is slow like yours.Reading your post, got me thinking about XP.
So, just now I went into Network Connections and
right clicked my only other icon (LAN), then clicked "Disable". Then I went to a slow loading
web page, and it seem to load twice as fast.
This will need more checking out.

Go to: http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php and download TCP Optimizer. That should resolve many of the problems you refer to.
Hard lessons learnt are not easily forgotten.
