Slow service startup upon reboot

For some reason, my XP Pro. takes about two or three minutes to load all the services up. About 23 services will start up, several minutes will pass, then another 9 or 10 will start (total ~32). I notice that there is attempted floppy drive access when the remaining services start.

I would've guessed it was due to an old version of McAfee, but it still does it after I uninstalled McAfee and installed NAV 2002.

I went through and shut off uneccesary services and my startup programs are as follows...
Zonealarm, Winamp Agent, Norton Antivirus 2002, Soundblaster Live! software, and POW ad blocker.

It was doing this before Norton and the SB software was installed.

This is really getting to me, so if anyone has any ideas, I'd really like to hear them.

Thanks

are u using NTFS. in NTFS there have been occasions were the computer starts to slow down after awhile and start up and shut up become long also. also somethin about sb live memory leak. your memory is being used up by sb live causing system to slow down.

if not that target the program which takes up the most memory at start up and also try using bootvis which helps u decrease start up time.

No, I'm using Fat 32...

It's weird, because it just sits there for a few minutes, then the remaining 9 services will just pop up simultaneously.

oo ok well first of all it could be some sb luve memory leak but thats very rare. there also might be some program thats incompatible with windows xp. it will run but it willc ause the system to downgrade. my macfee did that so when i reformatted my drive i didnt bother even installing it. You dont really need a virus scan its more trouble than help. if u do turn off the system scan when u start ur comp up it wastes memory while its scanning causing other programs to take longer. also look for some programs which might be tryin to access ur system or which take up alot of memory and try to turn them off if there not important. go to ur windows task manager and check the process which take the most memory usage. last thing i guess get bootvis.exe like i said. its made specifically for xp to decrease start up time and shut down. if u cant find it or dont noe were to look just email me and ill send it to u
cya happy new year

I have been having the exact same problem with windows XP pro, i am using NTFS file system, i dont have a SoundBlaster card (SB) and i have very little start-up services (only 4) Tiny personal firewall, Trillian, Motherboard Monitor, and my internet connection. All of these programs are compatible with windows XP.

What happnes with me is it loads up two of the programs, waits about 1 minute (sometimes more) then loads up the other two instantly.

Its pissin me off! please help!

By the way im using AMD Thunderbird 1.2 GHZ with 256MB's ram
